Integrated engineering, planning, and design for renovations to a Department of Defense research facility. Work included mechanical and electrical building upgrades as well as renovations to laboratory suites. Duct-mounted steam, hot, and chilled water coils for the entire building were replaced, as were steam humidifiers. The chilled water plant was converted to utilize a primary/secondary pumping system to increase efficiency, add capacity, and provide redundancy. Air-cooled chillers in the penthouse were removed and loads were then re-connected to the central chilled water system to increase efficiency. An existing 300-ton chiller and cooling towers were replaced with two new 450-ton chillers with a new primary electrical service to provide additional operating capacity and redundancy.
